LE SSERAFIM's Controversial Coachella Debut: Mixed Reviews and Criticisms

LE SSERAFIM became the second K-pop girl group to perform at 'Coachella' after BLACKPINK, but the group has been criticized for their embarrassing live performance.

On the 13th (local time), the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (Coachella), the largest music festival in the United States, was held, and the group (Kim Chae Won, Sakura, Heo Yoon Jin, Kazuha, and Hong Eun Chae) faced the local audience.

'Coachella' is the world's largest music festival with a long tradition and authority since 1999. It attracts more than 200,000 people every year and is a "dream stage" for many musicians, inviting artists with mass popularity and musicality.

This is the second time a K-pop girl group has performed at Coachella after Blackpink.

As a newcomer with less than two years of experience, people's interest in their Coachella performance was even more intense.

On the day of their Coachella performance, LESERAPIM appeared in all-black conceptual outfits with an intense band sound, performing a rearranged version of ANTIFRAGILE, FEARLESS, and The Great Mermaid.

Le Seraphim then performed "UNFORGIVEN" with Nile Rodgers on guitar, and continued to heat things with the English version of "Eve, Psyche and the Bluebeard's Wife," before the band took a breather with "Perfect Night" and "Smart.

Except for "EASY," Lecerafim closed his 40-minute Coachella set with "Fire in the Belly," which included a mixing dance at the end.

However, controversy and criticism of their performance have been raging in various online communities, including Instagram and Twitter.

While there is no disagreement about their performance skills, the majority of reviews criticize their lack of live performance.

Overseas reviewers posted comments on their Coachella performance, saying, "Congratulations on entering Coachella in the shortest period, but their vocal abilities were lacking," "It was worth listening to because of the non-stop dancing until the middle stage, but it was a shame that it completely fell apart from the 'smart' song part," and "It's an insurmountable root that comes from a team that was created by a large company called Hive to rush visuals and performance."

The group has also been compared to Blackpink, who became the first K-pop girl group to enter Coachella in 2019 and delivered an overwhelming performance. Blackpink's performance drew praise from the industry at the time.

Meanwhile, Source Music, a division of agency Hive, issued a press release on the 15th, saying, "LeSeraphim completed their debut stage at 'Coachella,'" and that "the audience also enjoyed their performance with loud cheers."
