BTS has topped the five-year combined single rankings released by Japan's Oricon.
According to their agency Big Hit Music on Wednesday, the group's single "Bitter," released in July 2021, topped the Oricon Reiwa (令和 - the Japanese yearbook used since May 2019) rankings for sales by work.
The ranking is based on streams and digital single sales in Japan between May 2019 and January 2024.
BTS's 2020 single "Dynamite" was ranked No. 4 on the same list.
"This is the first time an overseas artist has ever topped the 'Combined Single Ranking' of the Oricon Annual Rankings," Big Hit Music explained.
Oricon has been releasing the annual rankings on an irregular basis. In 2019, it released the Heisei (1989-2019) ranking, which aggregated 30 years of data.
In the "Streaming Ranking" for sales by work, "Dynamite" ranked third with 760 million plays. "Butter" ranked ninth in this category.
In the Album Ranking, BTS's best album in Japan, "BTS, The Best," came in at No. 6, and SEVENTEEN's first Japanese mini album, "DREAM," came in at No. 10.
